KICK4AIDS (K4A) INITIATIVE

There is an opportunity to use the 2010 Legacy to make a sustainable difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In order to reduce the spread of AIDS in South Africa, the youth should be given real opportunities that creates a culture of learning to deliver prevention and education messages.

Following this, Youth of Choice Organization (YOC) has developed the KICK4AIDS (K4A) Initiative which aims to fight Aids through football using the 2010 Legacy and the K4A initiative intends to be an effective facilitator for social change to tap into the minds of young people in vulnerable communities. The K4A initiative combines interactive soccer clinics and inspirational life skills on goal setting (My Goal 2 Live HIV Free).

This initiative will give a much needed boost to ongoing HIV prevention work in the Pietermaritzburg region which contributes the highest rate of HIV infection in the whole of South Africa and this initiative will be particularly powerful in months after the World Cup. This new initiative taps into 2010 Legacy by using football as the entry point for an evidence based strategy that draws on best practice for HIV prevention, life skills education and sports for development.
